Housekeeping: Ads

You might notice some adverts appearing on the right hand side of the website and in the RSS feeds. These are an experiment powered by Google Adsense and are completely random – though I’ve seen some great Orbit and Tor ads appear so I hope they aren’t going to be too random or obtrusive. I’m not taking direct advertising though not sure that would work. I’m not even sure that Google Ads are going to stay.

To be honest I’d just like to balance the investment I make in time and money (small amount of). I doubt it’s going to come to much but hopefully enough to cover minor costs like paying for postage for sending some books as prizes (I have a couple that I’d love to give away) or keeping me in coffee when writing blog posts.

Let me know what you think, especially the RSS ads – is it too intrusive etc. It’s not worth doing if it’s going to put you all off following the blog :D

It looks fine on the blog. It’s a little more obvious on my feed reader, but only because this is a short post. I don’t think it’s likely to bother anyone too much.

Thanks for that – I’ve set it for every fourth post on the RSS feed so I hope that’s just enough without getting in the way.

It’s quite unobtrusive on the website… I had to look to actually find the ad! I don’t have a problem with it and if it covers your costs, well, that’s good in my book!
