Best Novel

Ark by Stephen Baxter (Gollancz)
Lavinia by Ursula K Le Guin (Gollancz)
The City & The City by China Mieville (Macmillan)
Yellow Blue Tibia by Adam Roberts (Gollancz)

For once. I actually want to read all four nominated books! I have a vague plan about reading all four before Eastercon but we’ll see.

Anyone got any thoughts? Good list? Any idea of the winner?

  • I read, reviewed and liked ARK by Stephen Baxter
"I highly recommend the book to people who are interested in the possibilities of human beings to adapt to new environments."

Yellow Blue Tibia is on my to buy list for March.
  • You haven't read any of these yet Gav? What have you been up to all year! ;) Actually I've only read one - The City & The City - and thought it was an excellent read, up there with Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union and restores my faith in China completely (after loving his first two, I found Iron Council dull and hadn't read anything on his since).
  • I'd be so pleased to see The City & The City get some love after all the flak it got for being a crime thriller in SF&F clothing, but if I were a betting man, I'd put my money down on Yellow Blue Tibia for the win. I really must get a hold of a copy...

I read Lavinia and loved it. Now I'll have to read the other three and review them. Thanks for the heads up.
