Round-Up: Other 2009 Book Lists

Here is a selection of 2009 Book Lists by some of my favourite bloggers. I’ve added a few comments along the way but they’re not exhaustive by any means.

My Favourite Books: MFB Best of 2009 – Liz’s Choices

It’s been an incredible year, stuffed full of reading goodness and it’s been utter hell deciding what to choose for my Best of 09. But it’s been done and I’m listing them in no particular order. Twelve books were chosen, one from each month of my reviews.

I might try this next year choosing a book from each month. It makes some very different choices.

Speculative Horizons: End of year review + top 5 reads of 2009

Alright, time for the main event: here’s my top 5 reads of the year, in no particular order.

I’m questioning James’ taste I really am! Twelve is appearing on way too many lists and I don’t like it at all! Nights is on my own list round-up. Retribution Falls I bought especially after Liz’s championing of it and The Magician’s is getting mixed views. And I keep trying Tchaikovsky maybe I’ll skip Empire in Black and Gold completely. He’s redeemed himself with worst read though.

Bookgasm:5 Best Sci-Fi Books of 2009

This year was a strange one for science fiction and fantasy (particularly dark fantasy), as horror books got a lot of the fleeting media attention normally given to the robots-and-lasers crowd. But there was some amazing speculation in 2009, and here’s the best of the best.

I’ve been trying The Quiet War but it hasn’t grabbed me yet. The others might be worth checking out.

Dark Wolf’s Fantasy Reviews: Dark Wolf’s Awards for 2009

My 2009 top consists in a vast majority of titles released this year since I focused more on the new releases. I also included this year 4 more classifications for some of the reading aspects I enjoy the most in a book.

The Angel’s Game and Carlos Ruiz Zafón kept coming up as a favourite read. Twelve again! And I’m waiting for the pb of Yellow Blue Tibia.

Fantasy Book Critic: Mihir’s Top Reads of 2009

This is my first time at compiling such a list, so kindly excuse my mistakes. I’m very much a lover of Fantasy and Thriller books & thanks to FantasyBookCritic I got to broaden my reading horizons as well. Presented here are my top 20 picks amongst all the 80-100 odd titles I managed to read this year

Fantasy Book Critic: Liviu’s Top Books of 2009

It is very, very hard for me to rank books as well as whittle down to a manageable number considering that I read over 160 2009 releases out of the roughly 280 total books read in 09, as my Goodreads records show, with an overwhelming majority being sff or mainstream “fantastic”. So I will do a top 20 “core sff” list and a top 10 “mainstream” novel list for 2010

Whilst very different since Robert taking a back seat, the FBC crew are working hard to bring some great reads to everyones attention.

2009 favourites « Follow the Thread

It’s been a good year for reading, watching and listening, I think; so here’s a look at my favourite books, movies and music of 2009.

See it wasn’t only me that chose The Manual of Detection and The City & The City is sitting on my January TBR.

What’s big and fat and appears on the blog at the end of every year? You guessed it. Once more it’s time for me to wax lyrical about 2009 and all the reading that I’ve done… :o )

Graeme’s Fantasy Book ReviewThe ‘Big Fat End of the Year Post’ – 2009 Edition!

He picks out Lord of Silence by my favourite Mark Chadbourn. I lost heart after knowing that Solaris hadn’t picked it up as a series so as such makes it a good book but a misfire. Some great books on Graeme’s choices. It’s an essential blog.

Walker of Worlds: 2009 | This Year’s Top Reads

I’ve been looking back on what I’ve read in 2009 and I’m surprised just how much variation there has been in my reading. Before this year I pretty much stuck firmly with sci-fi, but with some excellent fantasy novels out in recent years I let a few of them slip into my reading, as well as some urban fantasy.

Seeds of Earth is getting a pb release in January so I’ve snuck it on the TBR oh and Mark put Nova War on his list. I’ve ordered The Skinner and Grindlinked so I can get back into Neal Asher from the start.

And that’s it for now.

Anyone have any books that haven’t made any lists so far?
