Update: Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

The most immediate is I’ve changed the theme again. I honestly think that this is going to be the last for a while. The theme is thanks to John Ottinger and his excellent Grasping for the Wind blog where I found it and iStockPhoto were I bought the graphic.

More substantial, I’ve added both a Book Review Index (that I’ll be slowly backfilling) and one of the Interviews I’ve done so far.

I’ve updated the tagline on this blog to, ‘The Best of SF&F, Crime, and Literature on the Genre Border’ as that really does cover 99% of the books that I read and blog about.

Who am I kidding, reading does have limits be it physical (like my book to reading time ratio being somewhat out of sync) or emotional (there is no way that I’m going to read the majority of the paranormal romance titles or chic lit books or most lit fic for that matter). So I’m setting some more definition on this blog. In reality nothing as changed as I’ve always covered SF&F, Crime and Lit Fic on the edge.

What is changing though is the amount of books that I’m going to focus on and how I focus on them. It’s partly do to with energy. I just don’t have the energy to read all the books that I want to read or to blog about the ones that have arrived in the post and keep up with blogging the books that I’ve seen around, the ones that look great.

I do those keep up with all the book news, new books and brilliant reviews from others on twitter, which is better than RSS feeds. Though my Google Reader is checked a few times a week via NetNewsWire I’m off and on twitter all day.

So if you’re into your books your really need to sign up to twitter and get following people.

I mentioned a few posts ago that I was doing a stock take and this post and the start re-jigging of things is part of that.

I counted all the reviews I’ve done this year, 42 as it happens, and was going to compare that to the amount of books I’ve mentioned and I stopped when I found that over the last 7/8 weeks I’d talked about 61 books.  Some were reviews but not 61 of them.

Not that it’s a bad thing but it’s much for my sanity as for yours. There is too much choice and I can’t keep up.

As EdiFanoB said on twitter:

it isn’t a problem that you mentioned 61 different books. I like it. The problem is that you are not the only one…..

The other thing I’ve been thinking about is making more of ‘Events’. Now an event can be major things like the H2G2 Week, which was done as I’m a fan and though it was worth celebrating or it can be a competition to win a book, I’m very lucky to get review copies (though I hope I put the hours in for them), I want to share the love some more. So I’m hoping to bring more competitions. There is going to be more interviews. I got a lovely complement the other day about my review style (I hope they weren’t just being nice) and I haven’t done a interviews for ages.

I’ll probably add a few more things but I’m poring my effects in to more reviews, interviews and giveaways at minute. Oh and I’ll get some pics of new arrivals up as well.

I’ve also started from scratch on my links. There are some great bloggers but again I’m limiting my focus. I’m going to try and not let it get too out of hand. I’ve added 3 I’ve missed already. I’ve called them Blog Buddies as I’ve spoken to them all at some point and I greatly respect their views though not always their choices ;) So I hope you’ll go visit.

I’ve added Coming this Week along side Currently Reading to the sidebar so you can see at a glance what I’m reading and what you’ve got to look forward to.

So a few tweeks more than serious ch-ch-ch-ch-changes. I hope you’ll stick along on the journey.

Last year I entered the blogosphere as a lurker, Then I changed to an active reader which means I started to write comments. In May 2009 I have been asked by Alec over at Only The Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy if I would like to contribute his blog and I agreed. I started with a Weekly Roundup. In the meantime I do additional posts and I started to write reviews which look a bit different compared to all the other reviews I know. I think there are better reviews than mine available. I always try to explain why I liked/disliked a book. Beside this it is important thing for me to enjoy what I'm doing.

I compared your follower list with mine and added a lot of people. I must admit your selection is great.

It's more shifting time - so the amount of books mentioned are less but more informed - hopefully making it easier to choose a book - depending on if you like the book ofcourse.

Twitter is a brilliant distraction so i'm happy to use it when I can't do much else. Though following 500 ppl it is hard again to find the ones that fit!

I see you're blogging a bit yourself - looking forward to reading more :D

Strangely I use RSS feeds less these days - I think I'm overloaded so I'm visiting more blogs.

I'll get those indexes filled then! Thanks!

Love the new look, and the indexes are an extra incentive to visit the blog directly (I usually read via Feedly and Google Reader).

Gav, you are really busy and that are a lot of changes. I'm prying where you will end. What I can see so far looks good - for me. Even as a blog contributor I fully understand your lack of time.

Thank you for the list of people whom you are following on twitter. I like twitter. You get a lot of information and you meet interesting people. But on the other hand it is really time consuming. Therefore I limited my time on twitter.
