Reading Update: March Reading Pile

Last month I set myself a challenge to read the following eight books in February:

The Secret War
Twelve
This is Not a Game
Hunter’s Moon
A Madness of Angels
Deep Water
The Island at the End of the World.
Gabble and Other Stories

How did I do? I read four in full (This is Not a Game, Hunter’s Moon, The Island at the End of the World and Gabble and Other Stories), unread two (Twelve and The Secret War), I’m reading another (A Madness of Angels), leaving Deep Water as unstarted.

I did manage to squeeze in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Gilbert Adair, Prador Moon by Neal Asher and The Ninth Circle by Alex Bell.

That makes seven in total so it seems only fair to aim for seven again this month. The next question is what to choose. Well I’m already reading A Madness of Angels so that’s got to go on the list. What else? I’ve specifically requested The Thirteen Treasures, The Manual of Detection, and The Accord. That makes five. Gah. Then the is Faceless Killers and The Murder Farm. Plus I want to keep up with Neal Asher and read Shadow of the Scorpion.

I’m still going. I really want to read Blood & Ice and Death at Intervals. I need to carry on with Harry Dresden. And then to top if off Mike Carey’s Thicker than Water landed through the door today.

Finally and may most excitingly Nights of Villjamur by Mark Charan Newton has a very high place this month.

This isn’t me complaining. Far from it. I’m really excited by the choices I’ve got. I’m just letting you into the thought process that are going on in my head.

I’ve tried to come up with a list and I can’t. So this month expect 7 reviews and I’ll let you know how I’ve got on in April.

But I’m open to suggestions out of the titles mentioned above that you want to see read.

I'm also reading Madness at the moment, enjoying it? Well, I've read Twelve, so I highly reccomend that, and The Secret War is next on my list; haven't yet read any Asher, though, and am not familiar with the rest, so… does that help? :-)

    Hi Dave,

Sorry probably not making myself clear: Twelve and The Secret War – I half read last month. Didn't enjoy either of them :(

Loving Madness thought it's living up to it's title!

    This month's choices are mostly:

Deep Water – as I really enjoyed Blood Ties (Fantasy)
    The 13 Treasures (YA)
    Death at Intervals (Literary)
    Blood & Ice (Historical Chiller)
    The Accord (Sci-fi)
    Shadow of the Scorpion (Sci-fi)
    The Manual of Detection (Detective)
    The Murder Farm (crime)
    Faceless Killers (crime)
    Beat the Reaper

I understand, :-) My brain was off for a while yesterday, the details now make sense! :-) I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Twelve and Secret War, though if you do want to try another historical fantasy, try Vlad the Last Confession by Humphreys, pretty good! Okay, let's see: I've heard that Manual of Detection and Beat the Reaper are great, Blood & Ice reminds me (just the title and setting, mind you) a bit too much of The Terror, and I've got both Deep Water and Blood Ties but haven't read them yet. Madness is an awesome book, something unique and fresh. :-)
