Lets start with a bit of voyeurism courtesy of Neil Asher, via SF Signal. Also from SF Signal is a link to a unique trailer for Coraline, which incidentally has a wonderful library (should I post a picture of my shelves?).
OF Blog has another review dissection. I kind of like these, though I’m not sure I’d like to be on the receiving end, as it’s a good way of looking at what impact a review does or doesn’t have in the eyes of others. Bloggers being mostly independent, as I’ve said before, do lack a decent feedback mechanism.
John Otter from Grasping the Windneeds some convincing in a post subtitled: Or, Book Marketing: A Reader’s Perspective. He’s come up with some pretty good ideas.
What gets me interested in a book? John pretty much covers everything but my choices would be different I think, will have to think about it.
John’s also spreading that idea that you can STOP ACCUMULATING BOOKS. The very idea is a knee-trembling.
I’m going skim over George R R Martin and the current buzz but see the comments if you want some idea of my thoughts on the subject.
Walker of the Worlds has written down his plans for February. I wonder if I should do that. It would stop me changing my mind – hmmm let’s see. Read by the end of February:
I’ve got review copies of Deep Water and The Island at the End of the World on the way through the snow so I’ll add those to the list. That leaves 3 more, making an aim of reading five books this month. I’ve just finished The Act of Roger Murgatroyd, which is very funny and clever so I can’t count that. I’m 90 odd pages into The Secret War by M. F. Curran so I’ll add that. Two left. Gah! I’ve just looked at the TBR pile Twelve has to follow The Secret War. Then I’m in a I-need-something-else mode so I have The Last Colony by John Scalzi, which as been waiting for a while. Then This is Not a Game by Walter Jon Williams or Seeds of Earth by Mike Cobley. And we have Empire in Black and Gold, The Gabble and Other Stories by Neil Asher needs finishing and that’s brilliant so far. We have Hunter’s Moon and The Ninth Circle….
Right:
The Secret War
Twelve
This is Not a Game
Hunter’s Moon
A Madness of Angels
Deep Water
The Island at the End of the World.
Gabble and Other Stories
Which makes two a week. Wish me luck!
I hope you’re all enjoying the Promo posts. I’m planning on doing at least one a day. I hope they’ll remind you of books you’ve forgotten, entice you try books you’ve not seen or just be good to add to the TBR/TBB (To Be Bought) Lists.
I have some ideas for interviews coming up as well.
So hopefully an interesting month all round.
