Probably sad to admit but I’m a big fan of talk radio, especially dramas and comedies so I was pleasantly surprised to read that Mike Carey has radio play on BBC Radio 7 on the 25th January called Hide and Seek read by the wonderful Mark Gattis. Must note down in the calendar.

Something that I have an on/off relationship with is short fiction. There is a debate going on about saving the short fiction centering around Jay Garmon. You can find his latest refinement here. Strangely, in this time poor age it seems that longer fiction is in vogue. Are short stories on their own something that is really worth paying money for?

But what really attracted me was the blurb:

Marooned on Venus, Hall and Chang of the first Chinese-American expedition are surprised to find themselves breathing Earth-normal air; and alarmed to find themselves captured by beautiful amazons mounted on foul-smelling centaurs.

“None of this can be real!” Hall protests, as he is dragged off to meet the Amazon Queen. Chang is inclined to agree (even though the arrow in his shoulder feels genuine).

Then the robot rolls in…

How cool does that sound?

Over at Fantasy Book Critic there’s the December Spotlight. Interesting books include: The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling, Fathom by Cherie Priest, Madness of Flowers by Jay Lake, The Angel Maker by Stefan Brijs (I know this already has a UK release and eager for the paperback), and Evil Ways by Justin Gustainis.

Just going back of the November Spotlight I’ve just spotted the The Juggler by Sebastian Beaumont. I’d also love to read Conjugal Rites by Paul Magrs and Deep Water by Pamela Freeman.

Early signs for the Twelve by Jasper Kent at least from Dave Brendon are good.

Hooked on Books has a very long and fascinating look at the book trade along with the 500 top selling books by volume in the UK for the last 7 years or so.
