We haven’t even had Halloween and had chance to by scared by the Terror 8, that have either own set of stunning covers, Gollancz brings together another promotion focusing on 10 Space Opera titles. On which Niall @ Torque Control has some thoughts. Here’s the list:
- Century Rain by Alastair Reynolds
- The Centauri Device by M John Harrison
- Tau Zero by Poul Anderson
- Eon by Greg Bear
- Ringworld by Larry Niven
- Stone by Adam Roberts
- Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C Clarke
- Last and First Men by Olaf Stapledon
- Ilium by Dan Simmons
- Eternal Light by Paul McAuley
Seems like a good reading list seeing as I’ve only read Stone, which is one of the best books sci-fi books that I’ve ever read, so there is plenty for me to choose from.
It’ll be interesting to see what they look like in the flesh. I like the b/w images. It would make me stop and at least have a look and it is a big departure from the painted scenes that you’d usually associate with space opera.
EDIT: Caustic Cover has some thoughts too.

Personally, I detest them.
I saw an entire book stand of these in a store, and just kind of stood there memerised. The amount of detail in the flesh is amazing.
