Hi Jem,

Really sorry for the delay in replying. I thought I had!

For something that should focus on the quality of text alone the packaging makes a hell of a lot of difference.

Has The End of Mr Y got a lot of sex in it or am I confusing it with the similar book that a purple cover by Penguin?

I’ve fancied The Gargoyle but isn’t rather short and dumpy as book?

Great idea to include actual photos of the books. Sometimes the look of a book can make the difference between whether I buy or not – and its not just the cover, its the size and shape and wotnot.

I just got a book today (‘Show Me the Sky’) that looks a bit like a video, its in a slip case – Canongate seem to do a lot of quirky things with their books. I’ve had a couple of ones with blackened pages lately (‘The End of Mr Y’ which might be your cup of tea? and ‘The Gargoyle’ which I haven’t read yet). I think its a good idea when things stand out, but it could cross the line into annoying and gimmicky.

I’ve promised myself that I will have a review of Just After Sunset up on the day of release on the 12th November so it’s going to be sooner rather than later.

I loved ‘Mist’, a great short story that doesn’t end quite the way I was hoping. No happy ending for me!

I’ve promised myself that I will have a review of Just After Sunset up on the day of release on the 12th November so it’s going to be sooner rather than later.
