Promo: Caustic Cover Critic

Earlier this year, we looked at the first nine Puffin Classics: a very attractive series of great children’s books, with funky new covers by some top children’s illustrators.
So starts another of Caustic Cover’s brilliant posts. I have a thing for cover design after spending two years doing just that and I love the selections and commentary on this blog.
Out of the nine covers in the post I think that Journey to the Centre of the Earth is my favourite closely followed by King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Any one else have a fave?

A pleasing design can make the whole book reading process so much more enjoyable. I’m a particular fan of tactile covers, you know, when they have a matt finish. I remember a copy of a Douglas Coupland that was mildly corrugated brown card. I’m not partial to this black pages thing that a couple of recent books have used (The Gargoyle, and The End of Mr Y) - I guess its meant to look creepy, but they just look dirty or burned to me.
My favourite Puffin Classic is The Wind in the Willows - a cheery looking toad would always win me over!
