@ Jem - sorry for the late response. I like the idea of a diary or record of reading. I guess that applies to this blog. And you're right about it being good to see what your thoughts were about a particular book was at the time of reading.

I'm always a little shy about being negative unless I can make some constructive comments so I guess the book has to kind of work for me. My problem I guess is that if I find it bad I'm just going to put it down. I think I need to reinstate the list of books I' haven't finished to the sidebar. That might give some feeling of it I got on with them or not. Some books aren't actually bad they just don't click like Arthur and George. I just didn't feel the urge to pick it up again.

@ Robert - you're superhuman though :D I wish I had your energy ;) I'll keep going in my own small way.

Well I for one edit all of my posts, and review books mainly by release dates, but that's just me ;) Personally, it's your blog and you should do it the way you want to, no matter how that may be...

Sorry, just thought of another thing. I think over positivity is a danger in a lot of areas of blogging. I've addressed this issue myself when discussing creative writing and the feedback and comments people leave. Sometimes I really tire of reading pages and pages of comments on peoples blogs (and my own) saying 'wow' 'great' etc. Sometimes its just comment for comments sake.

Now I dont think that the book bloggers I read do that in their reviews. But I'd love every now and again to read a really negative review. Authors be damned - it would do them good to hear it!

Interesting thoughts about the nature of blog book reviews. I guess we each have our own approach, style and timetable.

Personally my reviews (infrequent as they are!) are more for my sake than anyone elses - being as they sprung mainly from my Booker challenge. They help me as a reference to look back later and see what I thought of a book. I remind myself as I write them that they are my view of my experience of the book. They dont try to be objective. Often I write more about how the book made me react, feel, think etc than about the book itself.

If other reads of my blog gain anything from my review, either negative or positive then thats a bonus.
